“Did You Know…Why You Must Limit the Use of Your Fire Place?” Unfortunately, some existing fireplaces do not conform to current building codes. For this reason, we recommend people use their fireplace for aesthetic puposes and not as a heat source. if a fire is buring for a long period of time (more than 5 hours) or at intense heat, it could cause the surrounding combustibles materials (wood studs, drywall, ect) to catch on fire.
Our CSIA certified technicians can advise you of methods to help avoid heat transfer from your chimney components to the surrounding combustible walls. For example we can rebuild the back wall of the firebox and add various types of materials. The smoke chamber can also be made much safer by applying a 1 ½” thickness of “Chamber Tech 2000.” As a result of these procedures, the fireplace is now considered "zero clearance", which means it can be in direct contact with combustible materials.
